Obituary of Cathy Lynn Smith Tennis
Cathy Lynn Smith Tennis, 61, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at Juniper Village following a lengthy illness.
Born on March 13, 1961 in Bellefonte, the daughter of Charles and the late Helen Jackson Smith. On September 11, 1988, Cathy married John W. Tennis, who survives.
She is survived by two children, Christina Lynn Campbell and her husband, TJ, of Dallastown, and James A. Bartley and his significant other, Misty, of Boalsburg; two sisters, Margaret “Margie” Waltz and her husband, Richard, and Sharon Daughterty, all of State College; one brother, Charles Smith and his partner, Sue Templeton, of Pennsylvania Furnace; three grandchildren, Dominic Thompson, Ty Campbell and Kayle Carlson; one great grandson, Jarred Kohler and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cathy was a 1979 graduate of State College High School. She and John were the owners and operators of John Tennis Towing Company until their retirement in 2022. Cathy was previously the general manger of Handy Delivery which provided same day delivery for time critical local deliveries.
During her career in the towing industry, she served as President and Executive Director of the PA Towing Association where she spearheaded an event known as “Hooking Up and Hanging Out” for their association meetings.
In her spare time, Cathy enjoyed cooking, baking and traveling to the Finger Lakes region. Spending time with family meant the world to Cathy and she especially loved their gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Visitation will be from 1 until 4pm on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College.
Funeral service will be held at 1pm on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church, 105 Old Boalsburg Rd, Boalsburg with Pastor Brent Book officiating.
Burial will be in the Boalsburg Cemetery immediately following the service.
